3. Setup: After products are imported

To make your online store both beautiful and functional, you need to set up the AI search properly. This guide will help you achieve a professional look.

FAQ: First, make sure that you’ve followed both guides; necessary settings in M:AI and quick start to integrate M:AI.

P.S. We describe the Premium plan unless otherwise specified.

Variants

Log into M:AI admin, go to Products > Variants.

1. Join several matching Ecommerce variants into one

Select the tab “Ecommerce variants”.

Check if you have multiple variants with the name "Color" or something similar. Also, look for several variants with the name "Size" or something similar.

Now select the tab “Search variants” and check if you have several variants with the same or similar names there as well.

If it looks correct (you only have one of each name), go back to the tab “Ecommerce variants” and find variants with similar names.

On each Ecommerce variant name called “Color” (or similar), click Edit > Attach to search variants.

Repeat this step for each Ecommerce variant with the same or similar name so they are attached to the same Search variant, i.e., “Color”.

In this example, we have three Ecommerce variants named “Color” (id: 27, 28, 29). They are linked to one Search variant also called “Color” (id: 1):

For further details, please refer to Products: Variants.

2. Set layout / search mode on each Search variant

The default layout type is checkboxes. For each variant template you want to change the layout on and display it in another way:

Select the tab “Search variants”.

For colors, find all rows with “Color” > Edit template > Set Layout “Color”. Click Update.

Repeat this for variants you want displayed as Buttons or External images.

For detailed help on how to change the layout to checkboxes, external images, colors, or buttons, see layout types →

Some filters aren’t variants; then the layout types are set up in Layout > Filter settings.

Brands

Log into M:AI dashboard, and go to Brands.

If you want to display your brands as external images, then add an image to each brand. Otherwise, we suggest displaying brands as buttons if you have up to 8 brands; if you have more, we suggest displaying them as checkboxes.

For further details, please refer to Brands: List + Edit a brand.

Categories

Log into M:AI dashboard, and go to Categories.

Make sure that your categories have been correctly imported and that the sort order is correct, as well as the nesting of both main and subcategories.

For further details, please refer to Categories: List + Edit a category.

Stock statuses

Log into M:AI dashboard, and go to Stock statuses.

If you want to display your stock statuses as colors, then add a color to each stock status. Otherwise, we suggest displaying stock statuses as checkboxes.

For further details, please refer to Stock statuses: List + Edit a stock status.

Search settings

Set up popular search words or sentences, set the sort order, and choose which sorting options to display.

For further details, please refer to Search settings.

Synonyms

A synonym is a word that has nearly the same or the same meaning as another word.

How to set up your synonyms is explained in Synonyms: List + Edit a synonym.

Layout

To ensure your AI search looks its best, you need to configure each filter and add a URL to your logo, etc.

For further details, please refer to How to configure the filters and layout.
